Call for papers: Arctic Biogeochemistry

With this cross-journal Collection, the editors invite submissions that aim to capture circumpolar Arctic biogeochemistry under changing climatic conditions. Submissions are encouraged by 24 March 2027.

What is this collection about?

This collection aims to capture circumpolar Arctic biogeochemistry under changing climatic conditions. It is important amidst a rapidly changing environment to advance and preserve our understanding of what the past, through deep time, and present can inform us about the current and future state of terrestrial and aquatic Arctic biogeochemistry.

We welcome a wide range of manuscripts with a focus on isotopic, biomarker, micro and molecular fossil, and genomic data including eDNA, aDNA, and sedaDNA. We particularly encourage multi-disciplinary research that incorporates diverse data types, analytical approaches, and collaborations. We will consider original Articles and Perspectives.

While this collection focuses on Arctic biogeochemistry, extreme cold weather areas experiencing rapid changes due to climatic conditions such as high alpine, high elevation, and boreal may be considered.

Why is this collection important?

This Collection supports and amplifies research directly related to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 11, 13, 14 and 15 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Life below Water, and Life on Land.

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

This is a cross-journal Collection involving Nature Water, Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, Communications Earth & Environment, npj Extreme Ecosystems, npj Palaeoecosystems, and Scientific Reports. Authors are welcome to submit to any of the participating journals. All manuscripts published in the collection are hosted on a dedicated nature portfolio portal, giving articles high visibility beyond the journal they are published in.
