Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Biophysics of neuroscience.
This Collection combines neuroscience, physics, and biology to investigate the complex interactions within and between neurons, neural networks, and the brain as a whole. This field explores the physical aspects of neural function, including electrical, mechanical, and fluidic properties, using an experimental approach.
We aim to publish research articles on molecular and cellular neuroscience, brain-on- chip devices, functions of neural circuits, clinical neuromodulation for neurological and psychiatric disorders, synaptic transmissions, neuronal electrophysiology, and microscopy.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed to our sister journal, Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 12th October 2026.
Why is this Collection Important?
"Spinal networks operate through synaptic connectivity, voltage-gated channels, and neurotransmitter modulation—core biophysical mechanisms. Understanding them is key to decoding motor control and motor adaptation of spinal motor system.
This Collection allows bridging my work on spinal motor adaptation with biophysical principles, revealing how ion channels and membrane properties shape locomotor output. It will promote biophysical analysis of spinal circuits, fostering translation from basic mechanisms to rehabilitation strategies for spinal cord injury.
Researchers gain a focused venue linking biophysics to movement control, with expert handling from a spinal motor control perspective." - Prof. Yu Dai
Why submit to a Collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?

- Maxim Cazorla, Aix Marseille University, France
- Yue Dai, East China Normal University, China
- Santosh Helekar, Houston Methodist Research Institute; Weill Cornell Medical College, USA
- Andrew Nordin, University of Houston, USA
Internal Team:
- In-House Editor: Dr. Supriya Lokhande, Scientific Reports, India
