Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Game-based learning and education.
Game-based learning is redefining educational practices by integrating game mechanics—such as challenge, feedback, and narrative—into learning environments to enhance motivation, engagement, and knowledge retention. These approaches support active, personalized, and collaborative learning across diverse age groups and disciplines.
This will be a Collection of research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 31st July 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Capturing student engagement requires more than novelty: it requires the deep, resilient learning inherent in Game-Based Learning. This Collection serves as a crucial nexus for novel theories and practical reflections that challenge traditional pedagogy and we expect these contributions to catalyze a shift toward more immersive and inclusive learning environments globally. For all of us, this is a unique opportunity to join a definitive scholarly dialogue that wants to transform passive learners into active participants. Submit your most innovative findings to this Collection and help us turn educational theory into a winning strategy for the next generation!" - Dr. Roberto Dillon
This Collection also supports and amplifies research related to SDG 4 - Quality Education.
Why submit to a Collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
