Meeting Summary

Title: Cardiometabolism and Interorgan Crosstalk: Novel Mechanisms and Therapies

Date: February 15 – 19, 2027
Location: Beaver Run Conference Center, Breckenridge, CO, USA

Scientific Organizers: Saptarsi M. Haldar, Karol E. Watson, and David A Kass

Keynote Speaker(s): Daniel J. Drucker, Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute

We are witnessing a renaissance in our understanding of the deep mechanistic interconnectedness of cardiovascular and metabolic disease, marked by a shift from siloed views of individual organs to an appreciation of dynamic interorgan communication. Exciting new science and technologies are beginning to elucidate how these complex diseases emerge from coordinated dysfunction across cardiac, metabolic, renal, skeletal muscle, hepatic, immune, and nervous systems. The therapies of tomorrow will rely on our ability to decipher this intricate crosstalk. This 3.5-day Keystone Symposium, Cardiometabolism and Interorgan Crosstalk: Novel Mechanisms and Therapies, convenes a diverse, multidisciplinary, and international community from academia, the private sector, and public institutions to explore groundbreaking insights and novel therapeutic strategies. Sessions will span immune and neurological mechanisms, human genetics, AI-driven target discovery and patient segmentation, muscle-liver-heart-renal axes, obesity’s systemic effects, and emerging therapies. Invited speakers will present their latest unpublished findings, with special emphasis on translation of these insights into clinical innovation. In addition to the scientific sessions, the program will feature dynamic workshops and career-building events, such as mentorship roundtables and interactive discussions with leaders from diverse professional backgrounds. By fostering deep scientific engagement across attendees from a broad array of fields, this meeting will provide a unique environment for catalyzing cross-disciplinary collaboration, which is essential for our collective ability to tackle the alarming societal burden of cardiometabolic disease. In partnership with the Endocrine Society, this symposium aims to inspire “bench-to-bedside-and-back” discoveries that hold the promise of reshaping prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for patients worldwide.

*Keystone Symposia Scholarships & Awards*

Keystone Symposia offers discounted registration to students in undergraduate, M.S., Ph.D., or M.D. programs, providing access to the latest scientific advances, technologies, and approaches to further research and careers.

In addition, several financial aid opportunities are also available to support attendance at its scientific meetings:

  • Student and Postdoctoral Scholarships provide up to $1,200 to help defray travel, lodging, registration, and related costs when presenting a poster at an in-person conference. Awards are competitive, based on the abstract’s scientific quality and relevance, and you must apply by the individual scholarship deadline for the desired meeting (abstract + mentor letter required).
  • Early-Career Travel Awards (ECITAs) support early-career investigators with funding to attend meetings; these also require application by the posted deadline for each conference.
  • Global Health Travel Awards (GHTAs) provide financial aid for scientists, clinicians, fellows, and students from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to participate in select Keystone Symposia meetings, especially those focused on global health topics. These awards may cover registration, lodging, airfare, and ground transportation, and applications are submitted through the Financial Aid Portal by the listed meeting deadlines. Learn which meetings have in-person GHTAs available: https://www.keystonesymposia.org/financial-aid/global-health-awards/ghta-listing
