We invited several EBMs to share their unique stories with Discover, and here is the first bacth!
From Discover Social Science and Health – Daniel M. Parker – Section Editor
"I was invited to join Discover Social Science and Health early in the journal’s development, at a time when its interdisciplinary scope resonated strongly with my own work. Much of my research sits at the intersection of population health, epidemiology, geography, demography, and social context, so I was drawn to a journal that took that intersection seriously.
In my experience, social science and health often come together in important ways, but this kind of work is not always given a clear intellectual home. At times, it can be treated either as social science that happens to touch on health, or as health research with social context added at the margins. What I appreciate about Discover Social Science and Health is the potential to support scholarship where these perspectives genuinely inform one another.
In reviewing Topical Collection proposals, I have been struck by the range of ideas scholars are bringing to this space, including work on inequality, migration, place, environment, and the social determinants of disease. Looking forward, I hope the journal continues to build a clear identity as a home for rigorous, thoughtful, interdisciplinary research that connects strong empirical methods with careful attention to equity, context, and the lived realities of populations often underrepresented in health research. "
From Discover Education– David Pérez-Jorge – Editorial Board Member
"My journey with Discover has been both professionally rewarding and personally enriching. I first became involved with the journal through the peer-review process, attracted by its commitment to publishing rigorous, accessible, and innovative educational research. As my collaboration grew, I had the opportunity not only to review manuscripts but also to serve as Guest Editor for Special Collections, working closely with authors, reviewers, and editors throughout the editorial process.
One aspect I particularly value is the collaborative spirit that characterizes the Discover journals. Every manuscript presents an opportunity to help researchers strengthen their work, and I see peer review not simply as an evaluation process but as an essential contribution to the advancement of science. I have especially enjoyed supporting early-career researchers and promoting research that has meaningful educational and social impact.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue strengthening my collaboration with Discover by editing additional Special Collections, contributing as a reviewer and editor, and encouraging researchers from my international network to consider Discover journals as a venue for disseminating high-quality research. I believe Discover has established itself as an important platform for open, multidisciplinary, and impactful scientific communication, and I look forward to contributing to its continued growth.

From Discover Oncology – Jincheng Wang – Editorial Board Member
"My journey with Discover Oncology began when I was looking for a journal that closely matched my research interests in oncology imaging and radiomics. During this process, I found that Discover Oncology was highly relevant to my work, particularly because of its broad coverage of cancer imaging, biomarkers, artificial intelligence, and translational oncology.
I chose to join the journal because its multidisciplinary scope strongly aligns with my background as a clinician-researcher working in radiomics, machine learning, and imaging biomarker development. Serving as an Editorial Board Member has also given me the opportunity to contribute beyond my own research.
Moving forward, I hope to continue contributing to fair, timely, and high-quality peer review. I also hope Discover Oncology will attract more innovative studies in cancer imaging, radiomics, artificial intelligence, and precision oncology, and further strengthen its influence within the international oncology community. "
From Discover Water – Helder I. Chaminé – Section Editor
"My journey with the Discover Journal Series began in 2018 when I joined the Editorial Board of Discover Applied Sciences at the invitation of Managing Editor Dr. Clifford Chuwah. I was immediately inspired by the journal’s interdisciplinary vision and commitment to addressing real-world challenges through scientific innovation, values that closely align with my academic and professional interests.
Today, I serve as Section Editor for Discover Water (2020), Discover Geoscience (2023), and Discover Applied Sciences (2025), supporting their mission of scientific excellence, innovation, and international collaboration. The Discover Series particularly appeals to me because of its role in fostering interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. As a researcher in GIS mapping, engineering geosciences, groundwater, hydrogeomechanics, and geohazards, I believe that complex environmental and societal challenges require integrated approaches that connect diverse fields of knowledge.
My perspective has been influenced by Ian McHarg’s concept of Design with Nature, which advocates harmonizing human development with natural systems. One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been witnessing these journals grow into internationally recognized scientific platforms. Looking ahead, I remain committed to strengthening their visibility and impact, advancing research that contributes to a more sustainable and resilient future while fostering excellence, accessibility, and engagement across the global scientific community.
As the Discover Series is ultimately built for its readers, its success will continue to depend on fostering scientific integrity, accessibility, and meaningful engagement across the global research community. "
