Assistant Editor - Radiation and Environmental Biophysics

About the Role
We are seeking applications for the position of Assistant Editor for Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, an international quartile 2 journal dedicated to research on sources and effects of ionizing radiation.
This is a new role, and an exciting opportunity for anyone with a strong interest in scientific publishing and editorial processes. The successful candidate will work closely with one of the Editors-in-Chief and receive dedicated training to develop editorial skills and gain insight into the peer-review and publication process.
The role expects the individual to handle no more than 30 manuscripts per annum, which may equate to 3 manuscripts per month. This is estimated to require no more than 10 hours per week at the very most. However, the exact number of papers will be highly dependent on areas of expertise and topics of manuscripts submitted, and some flexibility is required (and will be reciprocated).
Key Responsibilities
Assist in managing manuscript submissions through the peer review process.Support editorial decision-making in collaboration with an assigned Editor-in-Chief, who will be assigned to train the individual in peer review and publishing methods.Contribute to initiatives that enhance the journal’s visibility and impact.Join regular meetings with Editor-in-Chief to discuss workload and current issues. Join a meeting with wider editorial board and publisher to discuss strategy, at least 2 times per year.Work closely with the publisher to coordinate and facilitate any webinar activities.

Qualifications/Requirements
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant scientific field (e.g. radiation biology, radiation epidemiology, radiation physics, medical physics, radiation protection) An early career researcher (definition of the European Research Council is up to 7 years of professional experience Strong organizational and communication skills.Interest in scientific publishing and editorial work.
