Meeting Summary
Title: Epigenetics in Health and Disease
Date: April 12 - 15, 2027
Location: Rimrock Banff, Emblems Collection, Banff, AB, Canada
Scientific Organizers: Liling Wan and Bradley E. Bernstein
Keynote Speaker(s): Speaker to be announced
The regulation of genome function through epigenetic mechanisms and 3D chromatin architecture is fundamental to development, physiology, and disease. Disruption of key epigenetic regulators—such as DNA and histone modifying enzymes, chromatin remodelers, and nuclear organizers—is increasingly linked to cancer, immune dysfunction, neurodevelopmental disorders, and aging-related decline. While epigenetic therapies and genome-editing tools are advancing toward the clinic, a deeper understanding of how these mechanisms govern cell fate and dysfunction is essential to unlocking new biological insights and developing more effective therapeutic strategies.
This meeting will bring together leading scientists across epigenetics, chromatin biology, developmental and disease biology, therapeutic discovery, and technology development. Core themes include chromatin modifications and function, 3D genome architecture, epigenetic inheritance and plasticity, and chromatin dysregulation in disease. Sessions will also highlight emerging technologies, such as epigenome editing, single-cell and spatial profiling, and high-resolution genome imaging, and explore their impact on both mechanistic discovery and translational advances.
The diverse lineup of topics and speakers aims to immerse attendees in cutting-edge science while fostering cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration. Trainees will particularly benefit from late-breaking abstract talks, interactive panels, and career roundtables that provide invaluable opportunities to engage with leaders and rising stars in the field.

*Keystone Symposia Scholarships & Awards*
Keystone Symposia offers discounted registration to students in undergraduate, M.S., Ph.D., or M.D. programs, providing access to the latest scientific advances, technologies, and approaches to further research and careers.
In addition, several financial aid opportunities are also available to support attendance at its scientific meetings:
- Student and Postdoctoral Scholarships provide up to $1,200 to help defray travel, lodging, registration, and related costs when presenting a poster at an in-person conference. Awards are competitive, based on the abstract’s scientific quality and relevance, and you must apply by the individual scholarship deadline for the desired meeting (abstract + mentor letter required).
- Early-Career Travel Awards (ECITAs) support early-career investigators with funding to attend meetings; these also require application by the posted deadline for each conference.
- Global Health Travel Awards (GHTAs) provide financial aid for scientists, clinicians, fellows, and students from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to participate in select Keystone Symposia meetings, especially those focused on global health topics. These awards may cover registration, lodging, airfare, and ground transportation, and applications are submitted through the Financial Aid Portal by the listed meeting deadlines.
