Introducing Metabologia, a new international open-access broad-scope journal

As part of World Diabetes Day, we are thrilled to announce the recent launch of Metabologia, an authoritative, broad-scope open access journal dedicated to research on all forms of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, renal and hepatic disease.

Launched in September 2025, Metabologia is an official journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and the sister journal to the highly regarded Diabetologia, EASD’s flagship publication.

Metabologia will publish research on clinical, translational and experimental aspects of diabetes, obesity and metabolic diseases, including complications and comorbidities, psychosocial aspects of the conditions, nutrition and exercise, and health economics and technology.

The journal considers submissions of original research, robust pilot studies, clinical trials, novel qualitative studies, real-world studies, high-quality reviews and informative systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Negative findings from well-designed, adequately powered studies will also be considered.

At the helm as Editor-in-Chief is Dr Jennifer Sargent, who has over 10 years of editorial experience including with Nature Medicine, The Lancet, and Nature Reviews Endocrinology. She holds a PhD in genetics and completed postdoctoral work in immunology at the National Institutes of Health. She has worked for the World Health Organization, is a Commissioner and member of the Executive Committee for the Lancet commission on Global Implementation of Precision Medicine, and leads Babelfisk, providing strategic research consulting in precision medicine, climate and health, and public global health.

With Dr Sargent’s experience in public health and precision medicine, Metabologia will build on the success of Diabetologia, highlighting novel, highly regarded research on all forms of diabetes as well as other metabolic diseases, expanding beyond basic and clinical research areas  by also covering the broader socio-political effects of these conditions, reaching a diverse audience of readers and authors.

Metabologia welcomes submissions and peer reviewers. For more information please see https://metabologia.org/ or contact the editorial office at editorial-office@metabologia.org.
