Abstract
Demand for critical metals and minerals (CMMs) is growing rapidly with the expansion of clean energy, electronics, defense, and other advanced industries, making secure and sustainable supply a global priority. This topic highlights hydrometallurgical (biohydrometallurgical) and electrometallurgical approaches for recovering CMMs from unconventional feedstocks, including coal-related materials, mine tailings, industrial residues, geothermal brines, produced waters, and e-waste. We welcome contributions spanning fundamental studies to pilot-scale and industrial applications, with emphasis on process design, extraction, separation, purification, and integrated recovery flowsheets. Submissions involving AI and machine learning for process discovery, optimization, monitoring, and scale-up are also encouraged.
