Call for Applications – Editor in Chief

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Editor in Chief to lead Nutrition & Diabetes from January 2027 for a three-year term.
The Editor in Chief will work closely with the Associate Editors, Editorial Board, and Publisher to maintain the journal’s scientific quality, support its continued development, and strengthen its position within the international research community.
About the journal
Nutrition & Diabetes serves as an international forum for research on nutrition, metabolism, and chronic disease, covering molecular mechanisms, energy balance, metabolic syndrome, dietary interventions, and epidemiology. The journal emphasizes clinically and biologically relevant studies, including trials in obesity and diabetes, functional and personalized nutrition, and population research on diet and non-communicable diseases.
About the role
The Editor in Chief will have overall responsibility for the journal’s editorial direction and scientific quality. Working in partnership with the Publisher, the successful candidate will help uphold high editorial standards, support an efficient and fair peer review process, and contribute to the journal’s future strategic development. The appointment will be for a three-year term in the first instance, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. The role also offers an annual honorarium.
Candidate profile
Education and Experience
Candidates should hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline, with expertise in areas such as diabetes, clinical nutrition, metabolism, obesity, endocrinology, nutritional epidemiology, or related clinical and translational fields. They should be an established researcher or clinician with significant research, clinical, and/or teaching experience in a relevant field.
They should also have a strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals or other reputable scholarly outlets, together with previous editorial experience, for example as an editor, associate editor, editorial board member, or reviewer for peer-reviewed journals.
The ideal candidate will bring a broad understanding of current developments, emerging trends, and key debates across the field, and will be able to contribute to the journal’s scientific development and long-term direction.
Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate should demonstrate a sound understanding of peer review, publication ethics, and research integrity. They should also have the ability to assess the quality, methodological rigor, and relevance of submitted manuscripts in line with the journal’s aims and scope.
Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. They should also be able to work collaboratively with authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and publishing staff.
