🚀 Revolutionizing microscopy: A new milestone!

I am delighted to be part of this work and to announce that we have developed the world's first instrument, at GPM (“Groupe de Physique des Matériaux”), that integrates two of the most advanced atomic-scale techniques: Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).

Here's what this fusion unlocks:

🔬 Real-Time Monitoring of Field Evaporation:

  • Enables in situ observation of the APT tip during the field evaporation process.
  • Provides insights into evaporation mechanisms and the effects of high electric fields on specimen morphology.

⚡ Electric Field Mapping:

  • Allows direct visualization and measurement of the electric field distribution around the specimen tip by 4DSTEM field mapping techniques.
  • Facilitates accurate calculation of the field factor, enhancing the quantitative reliability of APT data reconstruction.

🧬 Simultaneous Structural and Compositional Analysis:

  • Merges three-dimensional elemental mapping with crystallographic information.

By combining APT and TEM in a single instrument, we are pushing back the boundaries of what is possible in microscopy and materials analysis.

If you’re in material science, metallurgy, or simply passionate about pushing the boundaries of microscopy, this is a development you won't want to miss.
