This journal covers the diverse and integrated areas of microbial ecology and encourages contributions that represent major advances for the study of microbial ecosystems, communities, and interactions of microorganisms in the environment.
Coprophagy prevention alters microbiome, metabolism, neurochemistry and cognitive behavior in a small mammal
Our study demonstrates the impact of coprophagy on the gut microbiota, and downstream effects on cognitive performance in a wild rodent. Further, we demonstrated that microbial metabolites, such as acetate, are at least partially responsible for the changes induced by coprophagy prevention.
