Better Science through Better Data 2018 - Early Career Researcher writing competition

After another successful event last year, we are again looking for five budding science writers to help with news coverage of this year’s Better Science through Better Data event (#scidata18).
About you - You will be an unpublished*, currently enrolled science student/post doc from anywhere across the globe. You will need to be available to travel to London, United Kingdom - Wednesday 14th November 2018.
The competition - write a 500 word piece on one of the following topics:
• Mentoring open research
• How should Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data work in practice?
• How will open data advance scientific discovery?
• Benefits and risks to careers of practicing open research
• What is the role of journals and publishers in promoting reproducibility?
Deadline: 14th September 2018
The prize - the top 5 winning entrants will be invited to this years event in London. You will:
• Work with a Nature editor for the day as a reporter
• Have your winning piece and report from the day published on Springer Nature platforms
• Receive up to €200 towards your travel expenses
• Receive one year's free subscription to a Nature magazine of your choice
Winners and runners up will be announced soon after.
Again, this year's #scidata18 event is in partnership with the Wellcome Trust.
More about the Better Science through Better Data event (#scidata18).
Focused on early career researchers, the day-long conference will explore, through researchers’ real experiences, the role research data plays in getting published and helping to advance careers. The event will involve a number of keynote talks and shorter “lightning” talks from researchers and students presenting case studies of research data sharing, data reuse and associated tools in action.
Not interested in writing? Pre-register your interest to attend/live-stream the event in London and we will email you when registration is live.
* A ‘published’ writer is a professional journalist. Bloggers and student journalists are welcome to enter.
