What is this collection about?

Communications Physics is launching a special collection aimed at highlighting the work of outstanding early-career researchers in condensed matter physics.

We use the term next-generation leaders to describe researchers who have completed their PhD within the last ten years (excluding career breaks), are pursuing distinctive and independent research, and are making influential contributions to an emerging area of condensed matter physics.

Our editorial board will nominate a selection of researchers who meet these criteria and invite them to contribute to the collection. At the same time, we invite researchers who meet the profile of a next-generation leader to submit their work for consideration.

Beyond recognizing individual research achievements, we hope that these contributions will provide a glimpse of the future directions, approaches and open questions that will shape condensed matter physics.

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Communications Physics is edited by both in-house professional editors and Editorial Board Members.
