This Collection welcomes original research articles on quantum networks, focusing on the latest advancements required to build and exploit quantum networks.
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Quantum networks
Quantum networks are set to revolutionise communication by harnessing the unique properties of quantum mechanics. These networks promise unparalleled security, which is difficult to achieve with existing conventional technologies. By leveraging principles of quantum physics to enable secure information transfer, quantum networks are expected to be paramount in a variety of applications spanning from finance to healthcare. Due to their exceptional properties, quantum networks have garnered significant interest from both academia and industry, driven by the latest advancements in quantum technologies (e.g. single photon detectors, single photon sources, integrated photonics, etc.) and the growing societal need for secure communication channels.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 13th February 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Quantum networks are not just an evolution of communication, they are its reinvention. By exploiting the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics, they promise absolute security, ultra-precise synchronization, and entirely new modalities of information exchange. This Collection excites me because it unites pioneers who are turning quantum communication from laboratory curiosity into a cornerstone of critical infrastructure. The impact will be transformative: finance without trust gaps, healthcare without data breaches, and national infrastructures resilient to quantum threats. Researchers should submit here to help shape the blueprint of a post-quantum world, where secure, high-performance connectivity is not a privilege, but a universal standard." - Ivan Cvitić
Why submit to a Collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?
Guest Editors:
- Ivan Cvitić: University of Zagreb, Croatia
- Morteza SaberiKamarposhti: Sunway University, Malaysia
- Mario Stipčević: Ruđer Bošković Institute, Croatia
Internal Team:
- In-House Editor: Silvia Butera, Scientific Reports, UK
- Commissioning Editor: Robert Moran, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
- Managing Editor: Rebecca Chan, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
