Call for papers: Sustainable biomass and energy
Published in Materials and Mechanical Engineering
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Sustainable biomass and energy.
Sustainable biomass and energy research explores renewable resources such as wood residues, energy crops, crop residues, and organic waste from industry and households. Unlike fossil fuels, biomass is renewable from nature, and can be converted into biogas, biofuels, and other high-value products—providing pathways to reduce carbon emissions, diversify energy supply, and support global climate goals.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed to our sister journal, Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 11th November 2026.
Why is this Collection exciting?
"'Sustainable biomass and energy' represent a critical pathway toward achieving global energy security, carbon neutrality, and circular bioeconomy goals. This Collection is particularly exciting because it brings together cutting-edge research on biomass valorization, biofuels, waste-to-energy technologies, and sustainable process innovations that can translate scientific discoveries into real-world impact. Its interdisciplinary scope can foster collaboration among environmental scientists, engineers, and energy researchers. Researchers should submit to this Collection to showcase impactful work in a focused, high-visibility platform dedicated to advancing sustainable biomass solutions for pressing global environmental and energy challenges." - Dr. Ranjit Gurav
This Collection also supports and amplifies research related to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 15: Life on Land.
Why submit to a Collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
