Call for papers: Synthesis and applications of multifunctional aerogels
Published in Materials
What is this collection about?
Aerogels have been demonstrated in a variety of organic and inorganic materials. In all cases, their porous structure imparts them with unique properties, offering tailorable performance for applications that include structural, biomedical, environmental and energy-related fields. These applications typically require a specific combination of properties, and research on aerogels often aims to optimize multiple performance parameters simultaneously. Achieving this relies on an in-depth understanding of synthesis-structure-property relationships.
This Collection brings together recent research on aerogels, with an emphasis on aerogels that are optimized for more than one property. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Aerogels of any material class.
- Functional applications that include mechanical, biomedical, energy and environmental.
- New synthesis approaches, and optimization of existing ones.
- Property measurement and application demonstrations.
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?
Communications Materials is edited by both in-house professional editors and Editorial Board Members.
