CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICATION by INTRAPERICARDIAL and EPIVASCULAR ADMINISTRATION WITH DEVICES SUCH as an IMPLANTABLE RESERVOIR LIKE the THERAPI SYSTEM

Recently, Nature Biomedica lEngineering published an article describing an implantable reservoir named the “Therapi” system, which was to be used to treat congestive heart failure by epicardial administration of medication. Therein there was also a method referenced involving intra-pericardial injection.There would be great advantages of combining the two methods, specifically by suturing the a larger version of the device to an opening in the pericardium.

Intra-pericardial injection could have great value for the treatment of coronary artery disease, such as though the administration of vasodilators like nitroglycerine and anticoagulants like heparin. They might even be used to administer anti-atherogenic agents such as monoclonal antibodies targeting ldl or its receptor, like Canakimumab.

In addition it would discuss the device's application to other uses. For example, individual atheromas might be treated by applying the device to the outside of the diseased artery so as to diffuse the therapeutic agents into the vasa vasorum of the artery. It might also be used to treat psychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions by placing the device upon various brain on the surface of the brain. For example, extrapyramidial disease might be treated by administering dopamine or nicotine to the mesencephalon, possibly affixing the device to the tentorium to hold it in place. Likewise, similar devices might be used to introduce medications into the pleural fluid to treat lung disease.

The medical and scientific community should take great notice of this. The lives of thousands of people may hang in the balance.
