Associate Editor / Senior Editor, Astronomy Journals
Locations: London/Dordrecht/Heidelberg
Closing date: July 14th 2020
The Springer Journals group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world. We do this by providing a trusted environment in which researchers can quickly, easily and transparently share their discoveries, data and research stories.
The Springer astronomy portfolio comprises a range of titles across astronomy, astrophysics, space and planetary science. These include high-impact review journals such as The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review, and primary research titles including Experimental Astronomy, General Relativity and Gravitation and Solar Physics.
The Physics and Astronomy journals group are now looking for an Associate Editor or Senior Editor to join the team.
In this role you will take responsibility for the running and editorial development of a list of journals across astronomy, astrophysics, space science, and potentially related fields in the physical sciences. This will involve close liaison with external academic Editors, engagement with the scientific community to keep abreast of new projects and research directions, and using this knowledge to take concrete actions which keep your journals at the forefront of scientific endeavour.
You’ll work closely with editorial colleagues and collaborate extensively with other departments such as production, marketing, sales, and market analysis. A large part of the role is concerned with broader development of the astronomy list, which includes the identification of new business opportunities and steps to fully realise their potential.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. Editorial/publishing experience is not required, although applicants with editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for appointment at a more senior level.
Experience, skills and qualifications:
- Degree in the physical sciences is required
- Advanced degree in astronomy or physics preferred
- Editorial/Publishing experience is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work on your own initiative and independently within a (virtual) team environment
- Must be willing and able to travel when appropriate and required
To apply: Please include a CV and covering letter. Early applications are encouraged and will be considered as they apply.
