As part of Scientific Reports’ 15th anniversary celebrations, our new retrospective collection, Future-Proofing Health, showcases research that has helped advance our understanding of how to anticipate, prevent and respond to emerging health challenges. From infectious disease threats and environmental change to healthy ageing and health equity, the collection highlights studies that have informed research, policy and practice across diverse settings.

Featured papers include research on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance, providing insights into public attitudes toward vaccination; forecasting COVID-19 spread under different reopening strategies, demonstrating the role of modelling in pandemic preparedness; and a widely discussed study linking climate warming to increasing Vibrio vulnificus infections in North America, highlighting the growing health impacts of climate change. The collection also includes work on dengue prediction using machine learning, healthy ageing, and the social determinants of health, reflecting the breadth of factors shaping population health outcomes.
