In memoriam: Carl J. Carrano

This article is a celebration of the life and work of Carl J. Carrano who, from a childhood in Long Island, New York, built a career in bioinorganic chemistry, especially in the context of metal uptake and halogen metabolism in microbes and marine organisms.

The August issue of BioMetals honors the legacy of the journal's late Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Carl Carrano.

Serving as Editor-in-Chief from 2020 to 2022, Prof. Carrano's tenure, though brief, was marked by a clear vision and unwavering dedication to both the field of bioinorganic chemistry and the journal. His contributions helped shape the direction of BioMetals and continue to influence its growth today.
