About Vinit Mahajan

Dr. Mahajan is a vitreoretinal surgeon and professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University. He is the Vice Chair for Research and directs the Molecular Surgery Program that uses high-throughput methods in proteomics, genomics, and phenomics to identify and target molecules involved in eye disease. His research team created the TEMPO precision health tool that integrates human proteomics with single-cell gene expression to identify molecular pathways active in living humans. The lab leverages structural biology, medicinal and peptide chemistry, genetics, and AI bioinformatics expertise to advance drug discovery and development. He serves on the Board of Scientific Counselors at the National Eye Institute and has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications.

On the innovation side, Dr. Mahajan holds numerous patents and has successfully licensed drugs from his laboratory to industry. He advises startup companies and major pharmaceutical firms on clinical trial design, biomarker discovery and validation, FDA regulatory strategy, drug repurposing strategies, and development pathways from preclinical studies through first-in-human trials. His expertise includes multi-modal data integration platform development and translational medicine frameworks that bridge human tissue proteomics to actionable therapeutics. His multidisciplinary team translates laboratory discoveries into human clinical trials at Stanford and through the founding and support of biomedical companies, including ClinOmicsAI, which leverages liquid biopsy proteomics to revolutionize drug development in ophthalmology.
