Increased Threat of Subsurface Marine Heatwaves
Our study reveals that subsurface marine heatwaves will intensify due to rising mean warming and temperature variability. Compound marine heatwaves, where surface and subsurface events coincide, will become more frequent and last significantly longer than individual events.
