2026 marks 40th year anniversary of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering journal.
We gratefully acknowledge our authors, editors, reviewers, and readers who, over the course of four decades, have contributed to making Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering a leading forum at the interface of engineering and the life sciences.
Through their efforts, the journal has fostered the exchange of knowledge and the development of innovative approaches to bioprocess engineering, while serving as a record of the field's evolution.
We look forward to continuing this journey over the next forty years!

Cansu joined Springer Nature as an Associate Editor in 2021 in Chemistry Books team, and as of 2022, she is a publisher responsible for part of Springer Hybrid Chemistry portfolio.
She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Helmholtz institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland at the Saarland University, Germany and completed her master’s degree in chemistry at the Bilkent University, Türkiye.

Advanced Fermentation Technologies
Fermentation technology faces both opportunity and pressing scientific challenge. This special issue of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering advances the state of the art across the full spectrum of fermentation science. It aims to deepen understanding of microbial and metabolic mechanisms governing fermentation performance, and to explore innovative biotechnological and engineering strategies for process optimization. It further serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue between academia and industry to accelerate translation of scientific discoveries into scalable applications, and as a catalyst for new interdisciplinary collaborations. We invite original research articles and reviews addressing these themes.
