Antimicrobial Stewardship Pre, During and Post COVID 19 Pandemic


Through out my PhD, I read more than 10.000 Scientific Papers in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Antimicrobial Resistance. I am an #Antimicrobial Stewardship (#AMS) Global Lead. I have an American Board of Pharmacy with 20 years of experience, and I am certified in Antimicrobial Stewardship. I have special interests in #antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).

I led AMS and put #measures against #antibiotic-resistant #bacteria and 5-years AMS #strategic plan. I am a #director of #FADIC Antimicrobial Stewardship #School, which was shortlisted for the #AntibioticGuardian #award (2020).

Realising the global burden of AMR has fulfilled my #passion for finding possible solutions to AMR through #effective #implementation of AMS and improving #AntibioticPrescribing and #education. I presented this #research #project at the University of Hertfordshire, School of #Life and #Medical Science annual #meeting in 2022. 

My research project aimed to investigate antimicrobial prescribing trends prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Rasha Abdelsalam-Elshenawy is a clinical pharmacist with 20 years of experience in pharmacy practice, development, antimicrobial stewardship, patient safety, and public health. Certified in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS), her career is distinguished by a steadfast commitment to optimising medicine use, ensuring patient safety, and fighting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). She holds a two-year certification in teaching and learning and research methodology, which enhances her ability to educate healthcare professionals on best practices.

Her leadership roles include developing a five-year AMS strategic plan, serving as the director of FADIC Antimicrobial Stewardship School, and contributing to the CDC AMR challenge. Motivated by a mission to mitigate the global AMR burden, she focuses on spearheading AMS initiatives, improving antibiotic prescribing practices, and strengthening public health education. These efforts form part of her broader vision to improve patient outcomes and make a meaningful contribution to global health advancements.

Dr Rasha Abdelsalam-Elshenawy holds a PhD in antimicrobial stewardship and offers practical solutions to antibiotic resistance. Her dedication to tackling the global challenge of AMR drives her to pursue innovative solutions worldwide. She has authored over 120 publications, abstracts and articles.
