AGENDA DIGITALE (NETWORK 360) - LOTTA AL CYBERCRIME LOCALE: IL RUOLO CENTRALE DI "FBI ACADEMY" E IC3

In an era where cybercrime has become a structural feature of global interdependence, the defence of the digital commons demands institutions capable of both technical sophistication and international coordination.

In my contribution to Agenda Digitale (Network 360), titled Lotta al Cybercrime Locale: Il Ruolo Centrale di “FBI Academy” e IC3, I examine how two cornerstone institutions—the FBI Academy and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)—have emerged as pivotal custodians of cybersecurity, digital integrity, and transnational law enforcement.

The struggle against cybercrime is no longer confined to local jurisdictions; it unfolds on a stage of global consequence, where online fraud, ransomware, and transnational criminal networks exploit the porousness of digital infrastructures. Within this arena, the venerable FBI Academy functions as a training nexus for investigative excellence, equipping law‑enforcement personnel with the doctrinal, forensic, and operational competencies required to confront increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Complementing this institutional backbone, IC3 serves as a critical interface between citizens, businesses, and investigative agencies. By aggregating complaints, identifying patterns, and facilitating cross‑border cooperation, IC3 embodies the principles of technological vigilance and institutional trust that underpin effective cyber governance. Its role underscores the imperative of global cooperation and cyber diplomacy, particularly as digital crime transcends territorial boundaries.

The article argues that safeguarding digital probity requires not only advanced technological capabilities but also resilient institutions capable of coordinating responses across jurisdictions. In this sense, the FBI Academy and IC3 exemplify how national infrastructures can contribute to a broader international architecture of cybersecurity.
