Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Advanced nanophotonics and metamaterials.
Advanced nanophotonics and metamaterials explore the manipulation of light–matter interactions at the nanoscale through artificially structured materials with engineered optical properties. By tailoring geometry, composition, and electromagnetic response, these systems enable functionalities beyond those found in nature, such as negative refraction, cloaking, optical chirality, and sub-diffraction imaging. Their significance lies in transforming the way light is controlled, guiding innovations in information processing, sensing, energy harvesting, quantum technologies, and integrated photonics. Recent advances have been driven by precision nanofabrication, materials design, and theoretical modeling that collectively expand the accessible electromagnetic parameter space. Plasmonic and dielectric metasurfaces now enable ultrathin optical components with dynamic tunability, while hybrid platforms integrating two-dimensional materials, phase-change media, or nonlinear elements allow active modulation across spectral regimes.
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 12th November 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Nanophotonics has been at the forefront of microscopy and communication research field. Next gen application of Nanophotonics in combination with metamaterials will not only push fabrication boundaries but also allow provide avenues for faster and newer ways of computation. "
- Dr. Shobha Shukla, Guest Editor
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
