Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Aortic aneurysm and dissection management.
An aortic aneurysm is defined as a permanent dilation of the aortic diameter of more than 50% of its original size due to structural weakening of the aortic wall. It may occur in either the thoracic or abdominal aorta. An aortic dissection is a tear that occurs between two layers of the aortic wall, the intima and media and can be categorised as Type A or Type B, depending on whether it is located in the ascending or descending aorta.
Both conditions have similar risk factors, including hypertension, atherosclerosis and genetic conditions that weaken the aortic wall, such as Marfan Syndrome and Turner Syndrome. The extent of aortic disease can be monitored by imaging techniques, such as computed tomography angiography, Magnetic Resonance angiography and chest X-ray and advances in these imaging techniques, as well as in surgical interventions to treat them have led to improved rates of patient survival.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 28th November 2025.
