Call for papers: Aptamers in life science Collection

This Collection seeks original research into the application and production of aptamers in life science, with a particular interest in new aptamer selection.

Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Aptamers in life science

Aptamers are oligonucleotides selected from DNA or RNA libraries, also known as chemical antibodies. Compared to antibodies, aptamers present inherent merits such as being smaller in structure, and having better temperature stability and programmability. These properties make them suitable for a wide range of applications including biosensors, bioimaging, and therapy.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 2nd April 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Aptamers are powerful molecular tools with broad applications in diagnostics, therapeutics, and biotechnology. Their high binding affinity, specificity, and ease of chemical synthesis and modification make them promising alternatives to antibodies in many areas of life sciences. I am excited about this collection because it showcases innovative strategies and novel applications of aptamers that could revolutionize biosensor development, disease detection and targeted therapy. This collection has the potential to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate the translation of aptamer-based technologies into practical solutions. Researchers are encouraged to contribute to help advance the future of precision medicine and molecular recognition.""

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Xianjun Chen, East China University and Technology (ECUST), China
  • Chanchal Kumar, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, India
  • Xiaohong Tan, Bowling Green State University, USA
  • Zhuo Tang, Chinese Academy of Science, China

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Junxia WangScientific Reports, UK
  • Commissioning Editor: Charlotte Ben Romdhane, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
  • Managing Editor: Ioanna Pitsidianaki, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
