Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Climate change and physical health.
The direct and indirect effects of climate change, such as extreme temperatures, severe weather events, and pollution caused by wildfires and atmospheric pressure systems, can cause increased hazards to physical health and worsen health in individuals already at risk, such as older individuals, patients with cancer, and pregnant individuals. Understanding the physical health concerns associated with climate change and putting into place plans to reduce and mitigate these concerns become only more critical as the climate crisis worsens.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 6th March 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Given the alarming number of wildfires, floods, and other extreme weather events in this year alone, I believe this is an especially timely Collection and can help address many of the pressing research questions regarding the impacts of climate change on health at the individual level"
- Dr. Mike He, Guest Editor
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
