Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Polychaetes.
Polychaetes are a diverse and widespread group of segmented marine worms characterised by a bristled exterior. Research has demonstrated their contribution to sediment biogeochemistry and bioremediation of polluted environments, while other studies offer valuable insights into marine biodiversity, ecology and evolution.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 30th April 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Polychaetes, a diverse and ecologically important class of marine annelids, live in intertidal zones and deep-sea settings. They are important markers of environmental change because they are involved in trophic dynamics, organic matter decomposition, and sediment turnover. The goal of this Collection is to gather current findings on the taxonomy, biodiversity, ecology, physiology, and molecular biology of polychaetes, as well as possible uses for them in aquaculture, biotechnology, and environmental evaluation. By combining conventional and modern techniques, the Collection seeks to offer thorough understandings of the ecological and practical significance of polychaetes in the evolving marine ecosystem."
