Call for papers: Prawn and shrimp culture Collection

This Collection seeks to advance the understanding of prawn and shrimp culture through submissions covering broodstock development, farming practices, integrated systems, molecular and genetic studies, disease pathology, and strategies for disease prevention and treatment.

Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Prawn and shrimp culture.

Prawn and shrimp are among the most traded seafood species globally, driven by their short production cycles and the exporters’ ability to quickly respond to changing market demands. The industry’s growth is fuelled by increasing global seafood consumption, advancements in farming technologies, and expanding product utilisation in processed foods. However, the sector faces challenges such as disease outbreaks, inadequate management practices, environmental impacts from intensive farming, and the need for sustainable aquafeed ingredients.

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG-14 Life Below Water.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 21st July 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Prawn and shrimp culture practices are expanding rapidly due to its high demand. This creates avenue for high quality research towards sustainability. A Collection like this will be an unique document where all the aspects will be available. Researchers should submit their articles for wide circulation and visibility"

- Dr. Subhendu Kumar Otta, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature.
