Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Sensorimotor integration in children.
Sensorimotor integration is the process by which our brain combines sensory information from multiple sources with motor responses to produce coordinated actions. It is critical during early child development and plays a key role in all activities that require fine motor skills (e.g. handwriting, playing a musical instrument, doing sports). Impairments in sensorimotor integration might lead to movement coordination disorders.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 29th May 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Sensorimotor integration in childhood shapes how perception and action co-develop, with consequences for learning, mobility, and participation. I’m excited about this collection because it unites developmental neuroscience, clinical science, and engineering—bringing rigorous behavioral, computational, and physiology methods to shared questions. Its impact could be normative benchmarks and mechanistic insight into variability, sensitive periods, and trajectories in typical and atypical development—evidence that can guide diagnostics and rehabilitation. I encourage researchers to submit to this collection to help build a coherent, cumulative evidence base for sensorimotor integration in children."
- Dr. Patrick A. Forbes, Guest Editor
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?
Guest Editors:
- Patrick Forbes, University Medical Center Rotterdam, The Netherlands
- Verity McClelland, King's College London, UK
Internal Team:
- In-House Editor: Betty Mousikou, Scientific Reports, UK
- Commissioning Editor: Stuart Weir, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
- Managing Editor: Rebecca Chan, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
How can I submit my paper?
