Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Structural health monitoring and damage detection techniques.
Structural health monitoring and damage detection are essential for evaluating structural performance and ensuring safety across engineering systems. Advances in sensing technologies, signal processing, and computational modelling enable precise identification of faults and deterioration.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 27th November 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Structural health monitoring and damage detection are becoming central to the way we understand, assess, and preserve our built environment. In my work on seismic assessment, infrastructure resilience, and the monitoring of historic structures, I have seen how new sensing technologies, data-driven methods, and digital twins are transforming structural diagnostics. This Collection aims to bring together these rapidly evolving approaches and highlight innovative applications across civil infrastructure and heritage assets. By gathering high-quality contributions in one place, we hope to stimulate interdisciplinary dialogue and provide researchers with a visible platform to showcase advances that can significantly improve structural safety, resilience, and long-term sustainability."
- Dr. Hugo Rodrigues, Guest Editor
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?
