Call for papers: Tendon disorders Collection

This Collection welcomes original research that advances our understanding and improves outcomes for individuals suffering from tendon-related disorders.

Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Tendon disorders

Tendon disorders encompass a wide range of conditions that affect the connective tissues responsible for linking muscles to bones. These disorders, including tendinitis, tendinopathy, and tendon ruptures, can result from overuse, injury, aging, or underlying health conditions. Tendon-related injuries often lead to pain, reduced mobility and function and, ultimately, impaired quality of life. Given the high prevalence and long-term impact tendon disorders can have, they represent a significant clinical challenge, and further research is required to develop more effective treatment strategies, improve recovery outcomes, and reduce the economic burden on healthcare systems. Research in this field may focus on, but not be limited to, investigations into tendon healing mechanisms, biomechanical properties, the potential of biomaterials and gene therapies, the role of lifestyle factors, and potential rehabilitation techniques.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 27th May 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Tendon disorders are a common source of ongoing pain and disability in both athetic and sedentary populations, yet they remain complex and often misunderstood. This special edition will bring together cutting-edge research that advances our understanding of tendon pathology, rehabilitation, and prevention. I’m excited about the diversity of perspectives and innovations this collection will showcase—from molecular mechanisms to clinical applications. Its impact could reshape how we approach tendon health in both sport and general practice. Researchers should submit to this collection to contribute to a focused, high-impact dialogue that will influence future clinical guidelines and inspire interdisciplinary collaboration."

- Dr. Steven Obst, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Arne Burssens, Ghent University Hospital, Ghent University, Belgium
