Call for papers: Time perception in typical and atypical populations Collection

This Collection welcomes original research articles on time perception in typical and atypical populations.

Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Dementia and motor skills.

Time perception, the perceived temporal order of events, is subjective and malleable. It can be affected by several factors, including sensory information, and our emotional and attentional states. Understanding the factors that influence time perception, as well as the nature of its malleability, in neurotypical individuals is critical for understanding certain neurological and psychiatric conditions, whereby the passage of time is altered in affected individuals.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 31st July 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Time perception shapes perception and action, yet it is flexible and often altered in brain disorders. This Collection is exciting because it brings behavioral, neural, and computational work together to clarify shared mechanisms. Its impact could be a more unified framework for how the brain constructs time, with clearer clinical links. Researchers should submit to reach an audience specifically looking for advances in time perception."

- Dr. Xiangbin Teng, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:
