Hello there,
As Publisher of Tropical Plant Pathology, I am pleased to highlight Disease Profiles, a permanent collection coordinated by Dr. Rosana Blawid, Professor at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (Brazil) and Senior Editor of the journal. The collection is dedicated to publishing authoritative review articles on plant diseases that affect agriculture in tropical and subtropical regions.
Plant diseases remain one of the greatest challenges to agricultural productivity, food security, and sustainable crop production worldwide. While substantial knowledge exists for many important diseases, this information is often scattered across numerous publications, making it difficult for researchers, students, extension specialists, and practitioners to access a comprehensive and up-to-date overview.
The goal of the Disease Profiles collection is to bring together this knowledge in high-quality reviews that provide readers with a holistic understanding of diseases of major agricultural relevance. To date, the collection has published 20 articles, creating a growing repository of expert-reviewed resources covering important and emerging diseases affecting crops across tropical and subtropical regions.
We are particularly interested in Disease Profiles that address diseases with significant impacts on agricultural systems in tropical regions, including many countries of the Global South. These reviews should provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the disease and may address topics such as:
- Significance and impact
- Causal agent(s)
- Symptomatology
- Disease cycle
- Epidemiology
- Management strategies
- Current challenges and future perspectives
Authors are welcome to adapt the structure as appropriate for the disease under review, provided that the manuscript offers a comprehensive and authoritative perspective on the topic.
One of the strengths of Disease Profiles is its broad scope. We welcome contributions covering diseases of annual and perennial crops, forest species, horticultural crops, and other plants of agricultural importance. Our aim is to develop a valuable reference resource that supports both scientific research and disease management efforts across diverse production systems.
Because this is a permanent collection, there is no submission deadline. We continuously welcome new proposals and are especially interested in topics that are emerging, underrepresented, regionally important, or of growing concern to agricultural production.
If you are considering preparing a Disease Profile, I encourage you to contact me with a brief pre-submission enquiry describing the disease you wish to cover and its relevance to the collection. This helps us assess the fit of the proposed topic and avoid overlap with articles that may already be under consideration.
I invite you to explore the collection and discover the outstanding reviews already published:

I look forward to hearing from researchers interested in contributing to this growing resource for the global plant pathology community.
