How to use Topic Pages on the Research Communities

Topic Pages on the Research Communities bring together all content tagged with the same Topic in one place. They make it easy to keep up with the latest developments in your field and to explore emerging areas of interest.

Topic Pages are designed to help you keep up with the latest developments in your own field and explore emerging areas of interest. They bring together all content tagged with the same Topic in one place, making it it easier to:

  • Discover more: Enjoying a post or curious to explore a Topic further? On each Topic page, you can easily find related posts grouped by subject, making it simple to dive deeper into areas that interest you,
  • Expand your connections: Connect with others who share your interests and see who’s contributing to the conversation. Topic pages highlight those interested and active in an area of research.
  • Keep up to date: Follow Topic pages to keep up with the latest developments in specific research areas so you never miss an update.

What are Topics?

Topics are a flexible tagging system that helps structure content across the Research Communities. They connect related posts, people, and sub-topics so you can navigate the Communities in a way that’s relevant to your research interests.

When authors publish an article or video, you can add one or more Topics via the ‘Add a Topic’ field under the main Content box when creating the post. Once published, Topics appear in the sidebar of the post, where readers can click the Topic to visit its dedicated Topic Page or ‘Follow’ the Topic by clicking the ‘+’ next to the Topic name.

Inside a Topic Page

Each Topic Page has three tabs:

Content: This tab has all posts that are tagged with that Topic, sorted by most recently published. This tab also includes a search bar to search within the Topic page.

People: This is a list of the Contributors to the Topic (those who have published under the Topic) and followers of the Topic. Here you can also build connections by following them.

Sub-Topics: Shows related sub-topics, helping you discover new similar or related areas of interest and follow them easily. To follow each sub-topic, click the ‘+’ next to the sub-topic name. To visit the Topic page of each sub-topic, click on the text.

To Follow a Topic on the Topic page, click ‘Follow’ on the top right of the page.

Why ‘Follow’ a Topic?

Following a Topic will:

  • Add newly tagged content to your personalised Activity Feed,
  • Include tagged content in your Digest emails (if applicable, to tailor your Digest emails, click on your profile photo at the top right of the page and then click ‘Digest’).
  • Help you keep up to date on the Topics you are most interested in.

Personalised Activity Feed

When you follow a Topic, any new content tagged with it will appear in your personalised Activity Feed, making your experience more relevant, engaging, and tailored to your interests.

You can also search and follow Topics in the Activity Feed by clicking ‘Topics’ on the left-hand side of the Activity Feed.
