Collection Overview

Scientific Data has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Datasets for language sciences.

Language is central to human communication, cognition, and culture; psycholinguistics provides tools to explore the structure, variation, and evolution of language by harnessing insights from the human cognitive system and behaviour. We welcome submissions presenting lexicography, speech recordings, syntactic and morphological data, phonetic or orthographic datasets, language acquisition data, and other structured psycholinguistic resources. Multilingual, underrepresented, or endangered language datasets are especially encouraged, as are resources supporting computational linguistics research.

This will be a Collection of data descriptors and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Data more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 21st April 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"The Datasets for Language Sciences Collection highlights a crucial shift in how we approach language research toward transparency, replicability, and large-scale, data-driven inquiry. By sharing open, well-documented datasets, we empower the community to build cumulative knowledge across linguistic, cognitive, and computational perspectives. I am particularly excited about this Collection because it promotes collaboration between traditionally separate disciplines and supports FAIR data practices. We hope it becomes a cornerstone reference for researchers aiming to make their data not only visible but truly reusable, advancing a more open and integrative language science."

- Dr. Jon Andoni Duñabeitia, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Jon Andoni Duñabeitia, Universidad Nebrija, Spain
  • Xin Kang (康鑫), Chongqing University, China
  • Roberto Zariquiey, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Peru

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Alireza ForoozaniScientific Data, UK
  • Commissioning Editor: Nancy Rogerson, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
  • Managing Editor: Sarah Jane Hunt, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
