What is this collection about?

In addition to being a medical condition, disability is a precipitation of interactions between health conditions and social, environmental, and structural barriers. People with disabilities report higher rates of chronic illness, mental health challenges, and unmet healthcare needs. Public health efforts can reduce these disparities through inclusive policy design, accessible health systems, and community-based interventions.

With this Collection, the editors at Communications Health invite manuscripts that explore these healthcare disparities and barriers faced by people with disabilities, and approaches aimed to mitigate them at individual, community, and policy levels. We will consider original Articles, Reviews, Comments and Perspectives.

Why is this collection important?

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well-being, by advancing understanding and treatment of diseases that significantly impact ageing populations worldwide.
