Call for papers: Engineering groundwater quality assessment and management solutions Collection
Published in Civil Engineering
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Engineering groundwater quality assessment and management solutions.
Groundwater systems face growing pressure from pollutants and over‑extraction, demanding robust engineering solutions. Advances in hydrogeological monitoring, sensor networks, computational modelling, and mitigation technologies now enable more precise evaluation and control of subsurface water quality.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 16th November 2027.
Why is this Collection important?
"Groundwater pollution is one of the biggest calamities of the world, and needs special attention in scientific research and government policies. This current topic is globally relevant because groundwater is a finite, shared and life supporting resource. Engineering-based assessment and management solutions are all tools that allow humanity to protect this resource—ensuring safe water, secure food production and environmental sustainability for future generations. We are excited to announce this special issue as it provides a common platform for researchers to share their findings and innovations in the field of groundwater assessment and its sustainable management. This special issue is expected to contribute significantly to the scientific community aiming to explore groundwater research advancements in the era of Anthropocene. Researchers are encouraged to submit to this Collection for wider visibility of their work and to strengthen the scientific networks groundwater research"

Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
Who is involved?
Guest Editors:
- Vivek Agarwal, Northumbria University, UK
