Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Genetic conservation biology.

Many species face extinction due to stresses such as climate change and habitat loss. Understanding the genetic diversity that provides population resilience is key to mitigating this risk. Genetic sequencing now guides conservation by protecting high-diversity habitats, connecting them via corridors, and improving low diversity areas through translocation. Genomic data reveal local adaptations to stress – targeting gene editing approaches.

This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 8th September 2026.

This Collection also supports and amplifies research related to: SDG 15 - Life on Land.

Comments from Guest Editor Dr. Sevan Ağdamar

Together with Dr. Paula F. Campos and Dr. Andrea Fulgione, we are pleased to invite submissions to our upcoming Special Collection: "Genetic conservation biology". As a Guest Editor for the Collection, I hope you will consider this as an outlet for a future research paper.

This Collection welcomes original research that integrates genomics, ecology, and conservation planning. If you are interested in preparing a manuscript for consideration at Scientific Reports for this Collection, please let me know and I would be happy to provide further details. Submissions will be welcomed at any point up until 8th September 2026 but if you are unable to submit a manuscript before this date, please let us know as we may be able to be flexible.

This Collection is a great opportunity to highlight this important area of research, and we hope you will be able to contribute.

Why submit to a Collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Sevan Ağdamar, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Türkiye
  • Paula Campos, University of Porto, Portugal
  • Andrea Fulgione, Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, Germany

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Dr. Rucha ParanjapeScientific Reports, India
  • Commissioning Editor: Evie Rogers, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
