What is this collection about?
Artificial visual systems show great promise for perceiving complex and dynamic tasks in real world environments. Inspired by biological vision where neurons fire in response to stimuli, neuromorphic vision sensors operate on an event based sensing principle. This fundamentally distinguishes them from traditional frame based vision systems and offers significant advantages in power efficiency and latency. Combined with on chip computing, neuromorphic vision systems are being rapidly adopted in robotics, autonomous vehicles, surveillance, and other fields that require fast and energy efficient visual information processing. They can even surpass the human eye in terms of processing speed and spectral detection range, and are capable of operating under extreme conditions or adapting to diverse environments as needed.
In this collection, we aim to bring together cutting-edge research of neuromorphic vision hardware and algorithms, spanning from hardware-software codesigns to real-world deployments. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:
- Innovative material, device and architecture for neuromorphic sensor
- In-sensor and near-sensor computing for visual perception
- Adaptive and reconfigurable vision systems
- Event-driven vision hardware and algorithm
- Multimodal fusion perception and embodied AI
- Vision restoration and neural interfaces
Nature Communications, Communications Engineering and Communications Materials welcome the submissions of primary research Article, Reviews, and Perspectives that fall into any of the above-mentioned categories. Scientific Reports welcome the submissions of primary research Article. All the submissions will be subject to the same peer review process and editorial standard as regular Nature Communications, Communications Engineering, Communications Materials and Scientific Reports articles.
