Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Smart grids.

Smart grids, which are pivotal for transforming the electrical grid, require modern solutions for optimal energy management and distribution. These grids utilize technologies to ensure seamless communication and real-time data processing, facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources and enhancing grid reliability. The emphasis for smart grids is on creating resilient infrastructure and intelligent systems that can respond to fluctuating energy demands, offering substantial improvements in energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability.

This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 15th May 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Smart grids, which are pivotal for transforming the electrical grid, require modern solutions for optimal energy management and distribution.

As Guest Editor of the Smart Grids special Collection in Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), I believe this topic is both timely and essential for advancing global energy systems. Smart grids lie at the heart of the clean energy transition, enabling efficiency, resilience, and integration of renewables. I am excited about this Collection as it brings together innovative solutions, interdisciplinary approaches, and cutting-edge technologies that can redefine modern power systems. Its impact will be significant in guiding research, policy, and industry practices. I encourage researchers to submit, as this platform offers global visibility and the chance to shape the future of sustainable energy. " - Dr. Pardeep Singla

"Smart grids are pivotal in building a sustainable energy future, integrating renewable energy sources, and enhancing grid efficiency and reliability, directly addressing the global demand for clean energy. I am excited about this Collection as it will bring together innovative research in this field. We are confident it will serve as a vital reference for advancing smart grid technologies and applications, making a profound impact on both academia and industry. By submitting to this Collection, researchers have an excellent opportunity to showcase their work on a high-profile platform and collaboratively shape the future of next-generation power systems." - Dr. Yitong Shang

This Collection also supports and amplifies research related to SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy.

Why submit to a Collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
