Menopause and mental health
This Collection welcomes research articles on effective approaches to managing mental health symptoms during menopause.
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Menopause and mental health.
The years leading to menopause and the transition itself often affect women’s physical and mental health. Feelings of anxiety and stress, depression, as well as mood changes are some of the most common menopausal symptoms that compromise mental health. Treatment options include medication, psychological therapy, and lifestyle changes, yet individualized approaches tailored to the person’s needs and life circumstances are often the most effective.
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG3; and SDG10.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 26th October 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"After decades of being misunderstood and neglected in research and wider society, menopause is finally receiving the attention it deserves. This exciting and much needed special Collection will contribute to this by deepening our understanding of the mental health challenges some experience during the transition and, crucially, approaches to management and treatment. "
- Dr. Rikki Lissaman, Guest Editor
