Abstract
We discuss opportunities to design AI systems that function as collaborating partners for physicians rather than as standalone tools. The conversation is framed by a study published in npj Digital Medicine showing how an AI system designed to support a collaborative clinician-AI workflow can improve physicians' diagnostic performance.
