Last week the Communications journals (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) announced a series of travel grants. We hope that these grants will help early career researchers attend a conference that would be beneficial to their research but for which they do not have funding.

Full details of the grants can be found on the travel grant website, and further context is provided in this blog post from our publisher. To briefly summarize, the grant is €2500 (awarded upfront) and there is no obligation for the applicants to have previously published with/reviewed for Communications Chemistry, or to do so subsequently. We welcome applications submitted until 5th November 2018, which will then will be assessed by a judging panel of our Editorial Board Members and in-house editors. The judging panel will be considering the following criteria, and the winners will be announced in December 2018:

  • Has the applicant demonstrated that without the grant they would not have the necessary funding available to enable travel to the event?
  • Does the applicant plan to present research that the assessment panel feel has outstanding potential and should be seen by the wider community?
  • How does the applicant stand to benefit from travelling to and attending the meeting?
  • Has the applicant been working within a scientifically emerging country or in difficult circumstances?

Please spread the word among your colleagues and collaborators and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.
