Future Leaders of Biophysics Webinar March 27, 2025 2:00 PM (UK time)
Published in Bioengineering & Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Physics
We would like to welcome everyone to join this first Future Leaders in Biophysics webinar, housed via Cassyni on the Springer Nature Physics Seminars series supported by the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB). In this webinar, which is free to attend and will be recorded (subject to speakers' wishes), we wish to announce the winner of the annual prestigious Michèle Auger Award, connected with the Biophysical Reviews journal. For more on the Award, please read here: Biophysical Reviews: a call for nominations to the 2025 Michèle Auger Award | Biophysical Reviews
This webinar will take place Thursday, March 27, 2025 2:00 PM UK time
The meeting will honour the winner and top candidates for the Michèle Auger Award by giving them a chance to present their recent research and answer questions. Please do attend if you can and join us in celebrating the Future Leaders of Biophysics.
Below is the agenda:
✨ Welcome by Profs Wilma Olson, Rutgers University (Editor-in-Chief) and Anthony Watts, University of Oxford (President of IUPAB)
✨A talk on soft magneto-responsive biological substrates to open new avenues in mechanobiology, Daniel Garcia Gonzalez, Carlos III University of Madrid
✨A talk on visualising biology at the single-molecule level, Mathew Horrocks, University of Edinburgh
✨A talk on developing new tools to probe DNA structure and interactions with sub-molecular resolution, Alice Pyne, University of Sheffield
✨A talk providing insights into 5:2 molecular motors from cryo-electron microscopy, Nicholas Taylor, University of Copenhagen
✨Opportunity for Q&A to any of the attendees
📆Please sign up below for free, add to your calendar, and join us live via Zoom. If you cannot make it, the event will be recorded (subject to speakers' wishes, you must RSVP first to be sent the recording):

Special Issue on Biophysics in the Iberian Peninsula
We invite submissions for a special issue of the European Biophysics Journal in conjunction with the XVIII International Congress of the Spanish Biophysical Society (SBE), which will take place in Madrid from June 24 to 27, 2025. Our goal is to compile cutting-edge review articles highlighting the latest advancements in biophysics and related disciplines from an Iberian perspective.
In many countries, people are considered to enter adulthood when they turn 18. On the occasion of the 18th Annual International Congress of the Spanish Biophysical Society, the European Biophysics Journal joins in celebrating this national conference’s coming of age. To mark this milestone, a special issue of the journal will be devoted to Spanish and Portuguese biophysics.
Every other year, the Spanish and Portuguese Biophysical Societies hold a joint meeting—a tradition that has fostered multiple collaborations and synergistic efforts. This collaborative spirit will be reflected in the collection of papers featured in the special issue.
The issue will include both short and longer review articles, as well as brief commentary articles, covering a broad field of biophysics including, but not limited to, the main topics of the 2025 SBE Congress:
Topics:
- Cell and tissue biophysics
- Mechanobiology
- Disordered proteins, liquid-liquid phase separation, and aggregation
- Protein structure, integrative structural biology, dynamics, and function
- Biophysics of nucleic acids
- Applied biophysics in industry, biotechnology, health, and green transition
- Computational biophysics, including simulations, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and design
- Synthetic biophysics: self-organized and biomimetic systems
- Membranes and membrane proteins
- Advanced bioimaging
- Systems biophysics
We have warmly invited all participants of the meeting to contribute a review or commentary, and we now extend this invitation to all biophysicists with academic ties to Portugal and Spain. We expect this special issue to showcase the excellent quality and maturity of biophysical research conducted across the Iberian Peninsula.
