How do chickpea varieties respond to chromium pollution?
Published in Agricultural & Food Science
Chickpea is an important crop for food and nutrition, which made us interested in understanding how it responds to an environmental stress that may become increasingly relevant in agricultural areas. Working with different chickpea genotypes gave us an opportunity to look beyond the crop as a whole and ask whether genetic differences could influence how young plants respond to chromium stress. For us, one of the most interesting aspects of this work was seeing how early growth can reveal differences between genotypes. A key takeaway from the study was that understanding these early responses may help us identify useful genetic material for future research on stress tolerance and crop improvement.
