What is an After the Paper blog post? 

The Research Communities seek to bring together the wider research community to explore the latest findings in research, foster discussion, share thoughts and opinions, and highlight research-related opportunities.  

The After the Paper series aims to showcase the impact your work has had  – whether on your research field, in wider society, or on a more personal level on your career path.  In an After the Paper post, we invite you to share that impact and look ahead to where you think the research is going next.  

 

 

What makes a good After the Paper blog post? 

A strong After the Paper post helps the reader share your excitement about the impact of your work – both professionally and personally. It is a great idea to focus on what has happened since publication, include images, link out to wider references, and follow up activities where you can.  

A strong blog is clear, engaging and accessible, with a simple, compelling title and a brief strapline that summarises the post. Use a friendly, jargon‑free tone and structure your writing with a short introduction, clear sections, and a concluding look to the future.  

Below, we’ve added some questions you may want to explore as part of your post: 

  • What has changed—professionally or personally—since your paper was published, and how did the work contribute to those developments? 
  • How has your research influenced your field, wider society, or the future direction of related studies? 
  • What new questions, challenges, or opportunities have emerged for you as a result of this publication? 
  • Where do you see your research journey heading next, and what are your ambitions for the coming years? 
  • What advice would you give yourself if you were publishing this work now?
